General Description: | The United States Book Exchange (USBE), also known as Universal Serials and Book Exchange, is a clearinghouse for backdates of scholarly periodicals, popular magazines and trade journals. It is a non-profit-making corporation whose business dealings are with members which include academic, special, medical, public, corporate, government and other kinds of libraries.
Project Description: | All member libraries pay a nominal membership fee annually. Membership in USBE enables libraries to acquire as many back issues, volumes or sets of periodicals as they require to complete or enhance their collections. There is a small service charge for each item USBE provides. USBE annually publishes its Shelf List which is a dictionary of over 16,000 periodicals regularly handled by the organization. USBE conducts a donation program which is open to libraries in developing countries and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union as well as to libraries in all other countries which have no budgets for periodicals. Qualifying libraries may draw periodicals from USBE at no charge except freight. Interested libraries should contact USBE for more information. Materials offered: used books, back runs of journals.
