BIA's focus is on supporting organizations and disadvantaged groups in developing countries by providing materials relevant to their needs. BAI works in a wide range of sectors to support health, education, law, publishing and literacy.

Publications available include books for children and young adults; fiction; general nonfiction; and primary, secondary and university textbooks.

Comments and Special Considerations include the following:

1. Can supply books, journals, and other printed materials to organizations in targeted countries which meet specified criteria and priorities;
   
2. Requires feedback from the organizations worked with concerning what the books were used for and how they helped the organization;
   
3. What can be supplied is restricted by the donations received;
   
4. Strict guidelines on the types of materials accepted for donation to BAI's programs; BAI concentrates on quality as opposed to quantity;
   
5. General policy is to refer schools and other organizations where possible to a local partner who takes responsibility for clearing, transporting and distributing the books.
