[All-Ukrainian Central Archive of Documentary Films and Photographs in Kyiv]

Originally founded in Kyiv in 1932 as the All-Ukrainian Central Archive of Documentary Films and Photographs, the special state archive for audiovisual documentation was given its present designation under the archival reorganization in 1992.

The archive serves as a centralized repository for the retention of documentary films, photographs, and sound recordings for Ukraine. A few of the earliest holdings date from the late nineteenth century, but by far the bulk of materials date from the postrevolutionary period, and especially from the post-World War II period. Recently the archive has received a major collection of copies of photographic materials from the Bundesarchiv in Koblenz, including some Nazi pictures and others that were seized by the Nazis during World War II.

Access: All of holdings in the archive are open to researchers. Researchers should present an official letter from their sponsoring institution.

Published Description: See PKG Archives: Ukraine (1988), pp. 272-78.
