Sea and river ports (both commercial and fish) handled 19 mln. tons of cargo, which is up 18% compared to the first quarter of 1997. Ports handled 5,400 vessels, the majority of which (94.9%) was dry cargo ships. Port services were rendered to 2,400 vessels of foreign owners or freighters.
